1. Introduction

The Geometric Period marks the transition from the so-called "Dark Ages" to the formation of historical Greek society. During this period, populations are reorganized, art re-emerges in a systematic form, and the foundations are laid for the birth of the city-state (polis).
This is not a simple revival of the Mycenaean past, but a new social and cultural synthesis.
